New car, house and holiday for Lotto winners

A new car, new house and summer holiday are on the cards for a Dunedin couple who won $13.3 million at the weekend.

The couple, who wish to remain anonymous, bought the ticket at the South Dunedin Night 'n Day, and had been playing Lotto since it began.

The winner said she had checked the ticket ''about 10 times''.

''Then my husband came into the kitchen, so I thought I'd play a bit of a trick on him.

''Every Sunday morning, he would say to me, 'Did we win?' and I would say something like, 'Yes! We got a bonus line of Strike'.

This time she handed her husband the ticket with all the numbers circled.

''Of course he thought I was having him on.''

The pair were still in a state of disbelief about their win, but spent Sunday afternoon looking at new cars, and were looking forward to picking one up as their first purchase.

The couple celebrated on Sunday night with fish and chips and ''a bottle of bubbly''.

They were thinking about buying a new house before embarking on a summer holiday around New Zealand.

The multimillion-dollar payout was the second major first division prize to be won in Dunedin this year, after a ticket sold in July at Pak 'n Save Dunedin won $13.36 million.
