Five years after becoming Otago Museum director, Dr Ian Griffin says most of the initially-planned  projects have been completed, and work has begun on the next strategic plan, to 2025.

In a recent report he said he looked forward to working with the Otago Museum Trust Board and museum staff to plan "for an exciting future" for the museum. The museum had recently won two ServiceIQ Museum awards, and "an enormous amount of activity" had been happening.

Among recent highlights were the exhibition "Things Change, Martin Phillipps and The Chills", and performances by musician Anthonie Tonnon at the museum planetarium during the NZ International Science Festival.
