Occupant flees house fire in South Dunedin

One person made it out unharmed following a house fire in South Dunedin this evening.

Fire and Emergency New Zealand shift manager Daryl Ball said they were called to the house fire in Macandrew Rd about 6.27pm.

Senior Station Officer Pete Douglas said there was one person in the house at the time of the fire who made it out thanks to smoke alarms sounding.

The fire was now out, Mr Douglas said.

"No problems or injuries," Mr Ball said.

Four fire appliances managed to get the blaze under control.

A police spokeswoman said police were also at the scene to assist fire crews with traffic.

A fire investigator will be looking into the cause of the blaze which was currently undetermined, she said.
