Police are investigating after an altercation involving a group of people at the Octagon protest in Dunedin yesterday.

Senior Sergeant Anthony Bond said a man with a New Zealand flag walked through the Octagon and became involved in a verbal confrontation with some protesters.

"The protesters, 47 and 45-year-old males, and a 37-year-old female, thought he’d stolen their flag and the altercation turned physical".

Reports were that the man with the flag was pushed to the ground, Snr Sgt Bond said.

Police attended however there were conflicting reports about what had occurred so the investigation is still on going.
