A motorist involved in a crash with a taxi on the way to Dunedin Airport yesterday may have avoided missing their flight thanks to a kind-hearted officer who gave them a lift.

A police spokeswoman said the two-car collision about 9am at the intersection of Riccarton Rd East and Gladfield Rd did not result in any injuries, but the cars could not be moved without the assistance of tow trucks.

One driver was taken by police to the airport while trucks were deployed to move the vehicles, the spokeswoman said.

There was no word on the cause of the crash.
