Olveston manager Jeremy Smith has ''incredibly mixed feelings'' about leaving Dunedin next month to take up a new fundraising role in Canada.

In early December, he will take up his new job as chief development officer at the Harbourfront Centre, which organises a ''huge'' programme of cultural events at the large Toronto Harbourfront area.

English-born, Mr Smith (45) worked at the Fortune Theatre, in Dunedin, as general manager before taking up his Olveston role late in 2012.

As Olveston manager, he has helped organise a programme of activities.

Mr Smith said he had ''thoroughly enjoyed'' his time in Dunedin.

He said he had received an approach from abroad, and after further discussion, had accepted the Toronto job.

He will leave Olveston on November 17.

New Zealand had become his home and he had ''incredibly mixed'' feelings about leaving Dunedin, but was ''very much looking forward'' to a new job and new challenges in Toronto, he said.
