Peter Bodeker
Mr Bodeker, who is currently chief executive of the Seafood Industry Council, will replace Graeme Martin, who is retiring.
Council chairman Stephen Woodhead said today Mr Bodeker was an experienced leader with experience spanning the dairy, wood processing and seafood industries.
"His depth of experience in the primary sector, balancing productive interests with the need for long-term sustainability, will ensure he adapts quickly to the local government scene, and leads our staff as they implement the Long Term Plan."
He will take up his new role in November.
