Police have named the 92-year-old woman who died after she was knocked over by a van on Moray Pl in Dunedin yesterday.

She was Marjorie Joyce Pullar of Dunedin, commonly known as Joyce.

Southern District Command Centre deployment co-ordinator Senior Sergeant Dave Scott said the woman was hit by a Toyota van near Selwyn Grave Men's Hairdressers at 11.25am.

The woman was taken to Dunedin Hospital by ambulance, Snr Sgt Scott said, where she later died, as a result of her injuries.

Her name would not be released until relatives were informed.

It was too early in the investi gation to determine the cause of the crash and police were seeking witnesses to the incident, who were asked to contact Dunedin police on 471-4800.

A nearby retailer spoken to the Otago Daily Times said the van was heading towards George St.

She said the corner was dangerous, as pedestrians could not see what was coming.

A section of Moray Pl was closed for several hours while the Southern District Serious Crash Unit mapped the scene.
