Peninsula promoted in video

A Dunedin tourism operator is the face of a new video promoting the Otago Peninsula to would-be cruise ship passengers.

The one-minute-long video features Perry Reid, the owner and operator of Natures Wonders near Taiaroa Head, discussing the importance of preserving the natural landscape and wildlife on the Otago peninsula.

The video was made for the Cruise Lines International Association, a cruise industry trade body, and is being distributed via various social media channels.

Communications director Jon Murrie said Natures Wonders was the only New Zealand business to be featured in the #WeAreCruise campaign, which features multiple videos of international businesses that benefit from the cruise industry.

"Certainly, we hope there will be more [New Zealand businesses featured],'' Mr Murrie said.

Mr Reid said he was excited to participate as part of the new online campaign.

"Dunedin specifically is starting to be recognised.''

In the video he explains how tourism helps to fund conservation efforts and safeguard wildlife habitat.

Cruise ship passengers visiting Natures Wonders supported conservation by spreading the message of leaving nature alone.

"They don't only help financially but they also spread the word and they're literally taking the message to the world.''
