Monitoring photographs will be taken every three months along Matanaka Dr, Waikouaiti, through to the Karitane Spit, to help protect important assets nearby.
Information about the photographic plan was included in a report tabled at a recent meeting of the Waikouaiti Coast Community Board.
Any significant erosion changes in the Karitane Spit and Waikouaiti Beach area would be brought to the board's attention.
And the monitoring findings would also feed into reviewing and updating the 2002 Coastal Dune Conservation Works Programme this financial year, the report said.
Board chairman Gerard Collings said it was ''appropriate'' to monitor the situation, because of previous erosion in the area.
He said an effluent disposal field was located nearby, and Matanaka Dr provided access to sports grounds.
The report said posts had been reinstated and shade netting had been replaced on the Karitane Spit.
Mr Collings said that work had been done after a storm had contributed to erosion-related damage.
