Planting day at Ocean View

Big Rock Primary School pupil Leo Garth (8), fellow pupils (from left) Jasmine Rose (10), Esme Grey (10), Stevie Kahui (11), Armani Ngaia (11), Leith Conway (8) and (rear, left) Saddle Hill Community Board chairman Scott Weatherall and deputy chairman Paul Weir prepare to hold a public planting day at the Ocean View Recreation Reserve tomorrow (10am-noon).

The project aims to help restore the sand dunes through planting about 2000 pingao grasses.

Anyone wanting to take part can meet at the freedom camping reserve in Brighton Rd, Ocean View, and bring a spade if possible. A barbecue lunch will be provided afterwards.

Our journalists are your neighbours

We are the South's eyes and ears in crucial council meetings, at court hearings, on the sidelines of sporting events and on the frontline of breaking news.

As our region faces uncharted waters in the wake of a global pandemic, Otago Daily Times continues to bring you local stories that matter.

We employ local journalists and photographers to tell your stories, as other outlets cut local coverage in favour of stories told out of Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch.

You can help us continue to bring you local news you can trust by becoming a supporter.
