Detective Sergeant Chris Henderson, of Dunedin, said a man who attacked a 26-year-old woman in Manor Pl about 4.45am on Sunday was understood to have followed her from the Octagon.
The woman was queuing for a taxi in the Octagon about 4.30am but decided to walk home along Princes St.
The offender was believed to be in the queue and followed the woman along the street before attacking her in Manor Pl.
The woman received moderate body injuries, he said.
The offender was a male Maori in his 30s, with shaved black hair and of medium build.
He was about 173cm to 179cm tall and was wearing a light-coloured jacket, blue jeans and sneakers.
The police gang squad was trying to locate an offender who stabbed a 15-year-old youth in Howe St about 11pm on Saturday.
The offender was a male Maori or Polynesian in his late 20s or early 30s, about 185cm tall and of solid build.
Det Sgt Henderson said no other victims had come forward to say they had been attacked with knuckle-dusters over the weekend despite earlier suspicions following the aggravated robbery of a 39-year-old man on Saturday morning.
