Kate Moss may not have been in Dunedin last week, but the English supermodel has still left her mark.

The Security Building on the corner of lower Stuart St and Moray Pl  has been tagged with "Kate Moss was here" in large white lettering.

Senior Sergeant Steve Aitken said at least two people were believed to have abseiled down the building.

Paint tins and brushes were recovered from the scene.

The tins were tied to rope, which were believed to have been hooked on to carabiners by "someone who knew what they were doing".

Police were particularly interested in identifying the owner of a hearth brush which has "JAR" written on it in black marker pen.

While those who painted the building appeared to be professionally equipped, it was potentially a dangerous stunt, particularly as it was likely to have been carried out under the cover of darkness, he said.

"We would be very interested in speaking to these people."
