Police are continuing inquiries into an incident at a junior rugby game between Southern and Kaikorai clubs at Bathgate park last Saturday.
The Otago Daily Times understands the coach of one of the teams had just finished refereeing the game when he was allegedly assaulted.
Children playing in the game were left in tears after the incident.
