Police seek witnesses to cycling fatality

Dunedin police want to hear from people who witnessed the incident leading to the death of cyclist Dr Li Hong "Chris" He (34) in Cumberland St, Dunedin, on Monday morning.

Dunedin road policing manager Senior Sergeant Phil McDouall said the accident was outside Dunedin Hospital's old A&E entrance about 10am.

Police were still piecing together how the crash occurred, he said.

Environmental Science and Research had conducted tests on a truck-and-trailer unit that had been travelling past at the time and on a parked car, Snr Sgt McDouall said.

Police were grateful for information from the public but wanted to talk to anyone who had seen the accident, he said.

"If you saw the crash, the information you have may be vital to the investigation, as all information we receive adds up to create a picture.

No matter how small, the information you provide may be important." Police have spoken to the driver of a truck and trailer and the driver of a car parked nearby, he said.

Anyone with information should contact Constable Sheree Clark, of Dunedin, on 471-4800 or provide information anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800-555-111.
