Crash sparks fight in Dunedin street

Police were called to reports of a fight after a car crash in central Dunedin this morning.

A police spokeswoman said the crash happened outside Cargill House, on Princes St near Stafford St, about 9.30am.

"The occupants of the cars involved in the crash started fighting, one of the men was believed to have a stick.''

When police arrived at the scene about seven minutes later, the cars had gone, she said.

Inquiries were continuing, she said.

Fairfax reported witnesses saying a heavily tattooed man with a patu (club) swung at another man during a gang altercation.

A late-model BMW was badly damaged in the incident and was understood to have been rammed, it reported.
