Warning after girl approached

Dunedin police are warning parents to be vigilant after a young girl was approached by stranger in Mornington on Saturday.

The incident prompted Mornington School to issue a warning to parents and pupils.

An online post said an 11-year-old girl was approached by a dark green station wagon. A tall Caucasian man of medium build in his 50s or 60s with a grey hat asked the girl if she wanted a ride and to be his girlfriend. The man drove off when two women approached.

Dunedin police (03) 471-4800, Crimestoppers 0800-555-111.
