A psychiatric patient escaped from Wakari Hospital in Dunedin today.
Senior Sergeant Steve Aitken said there had been no sightings of the man but police were hunting for him.
"He's probably more of a danger to police than anyone else." Mr Aitken described the man as Maori, with brown hair and around 183cm tall.
He was last seen wearing black cargo pants, black trainers, a black bomber jacket and a black T-shirt.
