Creating a poster about methane gas at an Enviroschools hui at Pirates Rugby Club in Dunedin are Wakari Primary School year 5 pupils (from left) Emily Kena (9), Charlie Bauchop (10), Natalie McDonald (9) and Bradley Swan (9).

Year 4 to 8 pupils from Wakari, Macandrew Bay, Northeast Valley, Opoho, Dunedin North Intermediate, Purakaunui, Carisbrook, Musselburgh and East Taieri Schools attended the event.

Dunedin Enviroschools facilitator Anna Hughes said the pupils visited destinations around the city, including the civil defence bunker, water treatment plant and St Clair, to learn about climate change.

Charlie  said he enjoyed learning about methane gas production and how composting food waste could decrease the amount of methane in the atmosphere.
