Rescue goes awry on Dunedin beach

A four-wheel-drive vehicle plunged over a bank and on to St Kilda Beach after a towing rescue went wrong.

The four-wheel-drive was trying to tow out a vehicle that had left John Wilson Ocean Dr, on the Chisholm Park Golf links side, about 3.15pm on Saturday, a police spokeswoman said.

But the tow rope snapped and the 4WD vehicle went over the opposite bank.The spokeswoman said it was up to the owners to retrieve the vehicles.
