Rocking up to the beach made easier

An excavator moves large, flat rocks to the base of the steps at the southern end of the Esplanade, to improve public access to St Clair Beach.

Dunedin City Council coastal specialist Tom Simons-Smith said the work coincides with the South Island Surfing Championships, which will be held in Dunedin over Easter (April 19-21).

At the same time, some maintenance work was done on the ramp near the St Clair Surf Club to make it safer.

The total cost of the work was estimated to be about $3000.
