Anzac Day Memorial Run and Walk participant Dave Sharp runs the homeward leg of the event in Dunedin yesterday.

Event organiser Dave Crewe said about 75 people traversed the 8km course from Guthrie Pavilion in Andersons Bay to the Soldier's Monument above Highcliff Rd and back.

The event started by participants following piper Ray Goodfellow across Bayfield Park.

''Once Ray runs out of puff, he stands still and they run past him.''

Each participant was given a red poppy to wear with their registration number written on it.

The event raised $270 for the Montecillo Veterans' Home and Hospital.

The Ariki Athletic and Harrier Club organises the event, which was first run in 2002.
