A Dunedin Symphony Orchestra group spanned the city limits in a 12-stop tour of schools over four days last week.

A group of six orchestra musicians ended its annual school tour on Thursday.

Orchestra trumpet and cornet player Simone Arbuckle is in her first year in the orchestra.

She said she enjoyed ‘‘fantastic’’ tour, which included a stop at her former school, Sawyers Bay School.

‘‘I really enjoyed it — it is a really awesome experience, thoroughly enjoyable and the pupils responded well.’’

The pieces performed by the group ranged from Nikolai Rimsky Korsakov’s Flight of the Bumblebee to Lorde’s Royals, she said.

The musicians performed to pupils at Brockville Primary, Carisbrook Primary, Concord Primary, Lee Stream School, John McGlashan College, Musselburgh School, Sawyers Bay Primary, St Joseph’s School in Port Chalmers, St Peter Chanel in Green Island, Strath Taieri School, Te Kura Kaupapa Maori o Otepoti in Fairfield and Waikouaiti School.

The other five musicians were Sandra Crawshaw (violin and keyboard), Peter Lee (cello), Natasha Manowitz (flute and ukulele), Justine Pierre (flute and percussion) and Jonty Schmidt (oboe and cor anglais).

Orchestra spokesman Pieter du Plessis said the free concerts aimed to introduce orchestral music and instruments to pupils.

Every section of the orchestra — strings, woodwind, brass and percussion — were represented in the 45-minute performances.
