Organisers of the global protest movement have scheduled the second School Strike 4 Climate event this Friday, including a gathering in Dunedin's Octagon from 1pm to 3pm.
The second protest comes weeks after the success of the first event, on March 15, was lost in the mass shooting in Christchurch later the same day.
The latest protest would focus on the Zero Carbon Bill, which failed to adequately address methane gases and other agricultural emissions, Dunedin protest organisers Zak Rudin and Abe Baillie said.
They also condemned the decision to host a Minerals Forum in Dunedin later this month - calling for its "immediate cancellation" - and stressed the need for those aged under 18 to take action.
"The climate crisis affects everyone, but it will have the biggest impact on our generation and the generations to come.
"As school students we are under 18; we cannot vote for change, so we are forced to fight for our survival through other means. We need bold action now."
