Settlers remains popular

Continuing good attendance figures at the Otago Settlers Museum partly reflect the popularity of the museum's pre-Christmas Pixie Town show and the strength of educational activities, organisers say.

Museum director Linda Wigley said it was "exceptional" that attendance for the eight months of the financial year, until March 13, had fallen only about 15%, to 41,503, compared with the previous year, given much of the museum had recently been closed.

Favourable word-of-mouth comments by visitors and the successful use of alternative venues outside the museum for educational activities had contributed to the favourable figures, Ms Wigley said.
