SH88 reopens after crash near Port Chalmers

A car knocked down a power pole this morning in Dunedin, closing part of State Highway 88 until early afternoon.

A police spokeswoman said the single-car crash happened in Sir John Thorn Dr in Sawyers Bay near Port Chalmers at 8.30am and it was believed the driver was not injured.

No other people were in the car.

The spokeswoman said there was "some suggestion" ice may have been involved.

The concrete power pole blocked part of Sir John Thorn Dr (SH88 between Roseneath and Port Chalmers) and fire crews were also sent to the scene.

The power company had been contacted.

State Highway 88  between the intersections of Station Rd and Wickliffe Tce was closed and a diversion was in place until about 1.45pm when the road reopened, the NZTA advised.
