The successful applicant will look good in a sheriff's uniform, have good gunslinging skills, be able to round up bandits and, most importantly, will have a sweet tooth.
Being the Milkybar Kid means filling some pretty big boots, but Asher Quin reckons he has the checklist all tied up.
"I'm pretty good at doing all of those things - but I'm especially good at eating Milkybars."
The Rotary Park School 9-year-old is one of 10 finalists from around New Zealand who could become the next Milkybar Kid in Nestle's forthcoming advertising campaign.
He is the second finalist to be named.
Eight more will be named between now and November 1 when public voting begins.
The winner will be announced on November 19.
About 1500 children applied.
Asher and his fellow pupils at Rotary Park School watched the Good Morning show on television at school yesterday when he was announced the second finalist.
"When it was announced, everyone went ballistic. We were all so surprised and excited. For a while there, I was the most popular kid at school. But then we all had to go off to sports day."
He said his only previous acting experience was a couple of shows in community theatre.
In one, he played a bug when he was 4.
He auditioned after one of his teachers read about the competition in a magazine and suggested he would be ideal.
Since then, he said he had lost count of the number of times he had uttered the famous words, "The Milkybars are on me!"
While Asher was confident he could win the role, he conceded the competition was tough.
"Who knows. It's like they say on the ad - anything could happen."
