The roof on Dunedin's Forsyth Barr Stadium would be able to withstand a storm similar to that experienced in Melbourne on Saturday, in which hailstones the size of lemons caused major damage.
Spokesman Guy Hedderwick said the roof, which was made of the transparent thermoplastic polymer Ethylene TetrafluoroEthylene, had been tested with a car being dropped on it, with no damage recorded.
"The roof will be fine," he said.
