Metal supports have been hammered into the ground around old wooden high-voltage power poles near Ashmore St, Halfway Bush.

Aurora Energy asset management and planning general manager Glenn Coates said the poles were part of the Waipori hydro-electric power scheme, which brought power into Dunedin.

"We plan to replace the entire Waipori line between Halfway Bush and Berwick in the next two to three years, with new poles and new overhead lines. In the meantime, we are reinforcing existing poles as required. These works were undertaken to strengthen poles," he said.
