Student slightly improved

A medical student struck by a petrol tanker in Dunedin last week was in a ''serious but stable'' condition yesterday in an intensive care unit in Auckland.

Vrushali Ramakrishna Savant (25) was transferred from the Dunedin Hospital ICU to the Middlemore Hospital ICU on Wednesday and her condition had ''slightly improved'' yesterday, a spokeswoman for Middlemore Hospital said.

Miss Savant sustained life-threatening injuries on the corner of Frederick and Castle Sts, where she was walking at 8.25am on Friday.

She was in her final year of study at the University of Otago and was working as a trainee intern at Dunedin Hospital.
