University of Otago students (from left) Hope Wanchan (18), of Wellington, and Elisia Teo (19), of Auckland, place rubbish in a bag during a clean-up of the Andersons Bay Inlet.

They were among about 200 students from St Margaret’s College who scoured Otago Harbour, from Andersons Bay Park to the Harbour Mouth Molars yesterday, collecting an estimated 1320 litres of refuse within two hours.

It was one of the largest single clean-up events held in Dunedin in recent times.

The aim of the Orientation Week event was to show students what Dunedin had to offer, and also provide them with an educational opportunity to get involved in coastal/marine conservation.
