Dunedin has turned on the sunshine for Special Rigs for Special Kids today.

A mainstay on Dunedin's calendar, the event offers children with special needs a chance to take a truck ride ride around the city.

Departing around 11am, the rigs take a circuitous route through South Dunedin, over Corstorphine to Kaikorai Valley, up Taieri Rd and over Three Mile Hill to Mosgiel, before heading back to Dunedin via Fairfield and Green Island.

‘‘It’s a very special community event,’’ organiser Greg Inch said, earlier this week.

While cloud came over after a sunny start to proceedings, the day stayed warm for the event.
