A strong turnout at a public forum about the future management of Hawksbury Lagoon has organisers hopeful about organising similar events in the future.
Hawksbury Lagoon Committee chairwoman Shirley Mckewen said about 60 people attended this month's forum in Waikouaiti, at which there were five speakers.
Quite a few people had indicated an interest in becoming involved with the project.
"We were very pleased with the turnout," Ms Mckewen said.
"It is good to know the community is behind you in these projects, because they are not small projects."
The long-term project aims to improve the lagoon by improving water quality and the habitat for birds and wildlife.
The committee's plans for this year include fundraising to commission a hydrology report and a report about improving bird habitat around the lagoon.
People could become involved by helping with planting and maintenance, propagating plants or, if they live next to the lagoon, planting native vegetation along their property borders by the lagoon, Ms Mckewen said.
The next major planting will be taking place on April 17 in the Inverary St area.
