Dunedin orthopaedic surgeon John Dunbar won the supreme award at the Dunedin School of Medicine teaching awards held at Dunedin Hospital yesterday.

Mr Dunbar was surprised, telling the audience his first thought was that it was a "hoax", as there were so many talented teachers at the school. Mr Dunbar said he became more interested in teaching as he neared the end of his career, to ensure the next generation of surgeons was well-trained.
