Rural women connecting through new group

Isolation is an issue faced by many women in rural areas, Taieri Rural Ladies Group founder and rural dairy farmer Jean Bonner says.

Mrs Bonner addressed the Mosgiel-Taieri Community Board meeting last month.

She told the board that the group’s aim was to enable women in rural communities to connect and share information.

The group provided a forum to bring women together.

The group held its launch event in June and attracted more than 40 people to network and start the group. One month later the Taieri floods occurred, which allowed the rural women to find support in each other. The rural women  were seeking ideas about where to go in future but were hoping to become involved in community occasions in and around the Taieri.

Board chairwoman Sarah Nitis said she was looking forward to working with the group and getting their help with upcoming events, including the Tidy the Taieri campaign.
