Nearly a year ago, the Mosgiel-Taieri Community Board raised concerns about the sightline for motorists turning left to Mosgiel from an intersection on a Southern Motorway off-ramp.
At a board meeting earlier this month, board members raised concerns about a lack of progress on the project despite the NZ Transport Agency completing work on the interchange of State Highways 1 and 87.
In an email to The Star on Wednesday, NZTA senior safety engineer Roy Johnston said recent work on the highway interchange focused on enabling heavy traffic to go straight through the intersection and back on the motorway, rather than improving the sightline for motorists.
The work to improve the concrete apron and kerb-lines on the intersection was programmed in the 2018-19 financial year but could not be advanced to co-ordinate with the recent work on the interchange because it did not meet the national criteria for safety investment.
The agency was reviewing the priority of the work.
