Otago Hunt master Anne Beattie said about 50 riders - ''a good turnout'' - were there for the first day of an event that runs until Sunday.
The hunt involved chasing a scent, ''galloping across paddocks and jumping fences''. Riders came from as far as Christchurch and Te Anau.
A hound show will be held today at Wingatui Racecourse.
