A draft plan for the Te Rauone Beach development is expected next month.

In May, Port Otago and the Dunedin City Council announced a multimillion-dollar project to restore sand to the beach, about 2km from Taiaroa Head, and redevelop the adjoining reserve.

Te Rauone Beach Coast Care Committee member Des Smith said the second of two meetings would be held next month, at which the community could provide input into a draft plan for the beach’s reserve.

An initial community drop-in session was held at the Otakou Marae last month to gather ideas from the public.

A final plan for the reserve development was hoped to be completed by Labour Weekend.

A public presentation of the project was likely around that time, he said.

Once the reserve plan was finalised, Port Otago could work on consents for three large groynes it hopes to construct to revitalise the sand on the beach.
