Teddies and their proud owners took to the catwalk at Larnach Castle yesterday  during the annual teddy bears’ picnic.

More than 100 children and their parents took part in  a day full of events, including pass-the-parcel, a chocolate wrapper fashion parade and egg-and-spoon race.

Friends Talia Familton and Breana Geddes-Pringle  travelled from Oamaru on Wednesday, staying  overnight at the castle.

It was the first time they  had seen  the castle.

"It was really fun. We saw some geese sleeping on the ground,"  Breana said.

She had  decorated her teddy, Miss Cadbury, with a skirt using wrappers which she embellished with drawings.

Talia won the  over-5 girls’ fashion parade with her teddy, Jess, whose hat  was adorned with a rose  and set at a jaunty angle.

"It felt really great to win," she said.

Arthur Wallis  won the  under-5 boys’ egg-and-spoon race.

A fumble meant he dropped the egg, but thanks to lightning fast reflexes he raced to gold.

"I dropped my egg, but I picked it up fast," he said.

Mum Alice Wallis said they had travelled from Wanaka yesterday  to enjoy the teddy bears’ picnic.

"We had been planning this for a while because we had friends who said it was loads of fun," she said.

The  picnic was run as part of the Cadbury Chocolate Carnival.
