Teenager assaulted with a metal bar

Police described an assault on a teenager with a metal bar in Dunedin at the weekend as "nasty".

Senior Sergeant Chris George said a 17-year-old male received injuries to his face and neck, after he was hit with a metal bar in the entrance of Countdown Supermarket on Great King St about 2.30am on Sunday.

"It was quite a nasty assault which went on for some time."

A lot of people were in the area at the time and police are appealing for witnesses to come forward.

A male suspect aged about 18 to 20 years is being sought.

A 41-year-old male has been arrested after a teenager was assaulted about 10.10pm on Kaikorai Valley Rd.

The 16-year-old victim had swelling to his head and was bleeding from his ear, Snr Sgt George said.

The man will appear in the Dunedin District Court this week.

A male and a female received minor injuries in an alleged stabbing incident on North Rd about 2.30am.

Detective Sergeant Rob Hanna said four people appeared to have been involved in the incident.

They were believed to have come from a nearby party. A taxi pulled up shortly after the incident, he said.

Police are appealing for witnesses.
