University of Otago students queue to get into Smithells Gymnasium yesterday for their end-of-year examinations.

Exams began yesterday morning and more than 14,000 are participating. More than 500 exams will be conducted during the two-week period.

There will be 68 rooms in use on the Dunedin campus, and 15 national venues and 15 international ones.

Disability Information and Support Services manager Melissa Lethaby said the university was committed to supporting candidates who experienced difficulty sitting exams under conventional circumstances.

There were 1500 examinations being sat with alternative arrangements during the examination period, and a total of 2853 alternative arrangements made across the entire year.
