Tickets on sale for stadium's debut

Tickets for the first event to be staged at the new Forsyth Barr Stadium in Dunedin will go on sale on Wednesday morning.

The honour of the first rugby match at the stadium will be the Heartland Championship fixture between North Otago and West Coast on August 7.

The new stadium, which replaces Carisbrook, features a roof and the match will be the first test of its new amenities ahead of the four games it will stage during the rugby World Cup when it will be known as Otago Stadium.

Stadium boss David Davies said he was looking forward to the being able to test the venue.

"This will be an exciting and historic day for the community and entire region. This game is also a really important test event for the stadium and our staff in the lead up to RWC 2011.

"It's important we understand as much as possible about the stadium to give us time to iron out any of the minor teething problems that are inevitable in a brand new venue."

Tickets are priced at $15 for adults and $5 for children and will be on sale at www.ticketdirect.co.nz from 9am.

Kickoff is at 2.05pm on Sunday, August 7.
