PhD candidate Mayouri Sukhapure presents a short version of her thesis in the Three Minute Thesis Final at the University of Otago yesterday.

Her topic was sex hormones, mood, cognition, and emotion process in females, and she was one of 10 finalists.

Eight of the finalists were PhD candidates, and two were master's students.

Results were: Jenny McDowell, marine forensics, $1000 research grant for PhD winner and a trip to represent Otago at the Transtasman three minute thesis competition in Queensland; Nicola Beatson, accounting and finance, $1000 research grant for master's winner and a trip to Auckland to represent Otago at the first inter-university three minute thesis final for master's candidates; Gilles Marciniak, geography, $500 research grant for crowd favourite.
