Top award for landscaping

Design and Garden Landscapes, of Dunedin has won the landscape of the year national award at Landscaping New Zealand's biennial Landscapes of Distinction awards.

The award was for the Thom garden at Doctors Point and it was the second time the business has won the title.

It previously won in 2010 for the Kunac garden on the Taieri and director Wayne Butson was thrilled with the company's success.

The Thom garden won gold medals for landscape design and landscape horticulture, both for a large residential project, and the premier award for best residential project, as well as claiming landscape of the year.

The business also won two silver medals and two bronze medals for work on two other gardens.

Pukerau Nurseries, near Gore, won a premier award for best use of native plants for a garden at Mount Somers, along with two gold medals.

First-time entrant Ecco Landscapes, from Wanaka, also won a gold and a silver medal.

The awards function was held in Wellington at the weekend.
