Towed to safety

Emergency services were summoned to help a man left bobbing in Otago Harbour after his boat ran out of petrol.

Senior Sergeant Anthony Bond said police received reports of a 36-year-old man in a boat drifting near St Leonards Dr and Blanket Bay, about 6.30pm yesterday.

Search and Rescue and the Otago harbourmaster intervened to tow the boat back to dry land.

The incident served as a reminder for boaties to take communication equipment, life jackets and enough petrol to get back to shore, Snr Sgt Bond said.
