Two in hospital after "suspicious" Dunedin fire

Two people have been taken to Dunedin Hospital after a "suspicious" fire on George St.

A Fire and Emergency New Zealand spokesman said appliances from Central Dunedin and Willowbank stations were called to the second storey fire at 10.40pm on Saturday night.

After they arrived they called for extra resources and appliances from Roslyn and St Kilda were sent.

The fire was quickly contained, but two occupants of the property were taken to Dunedin Hospital suffering from smoke inhalation.

The spokesman did not have details about the cause of the fire, but said it was being treated as suspicious.

A St John media alert said two people were transported to hospital by ambulance in a moderate condition.
