It was opened to the public for the first time in decades on Saturday when the Vintage Roundup clothing shop set up for its latest sale.

Mrs Lee said the event was held in a different venue each month and the alleyway was being trialled to see if it was suitable to be added to its growing list of venues.

''It's a good way of seeing different parts of Dunedin. We really like buildings with character and large open spaces.

''This place is really cool. It was built in the 1890s. We love the character,'' she said.
