Walkway lines, poles to go

Lines and 18 power poles along the West Harbour waterfront in Dunedin near the cycle-walkway will soon disappear.

Aurora Energy community relations adviser Karen Melville said two teams were working from either side of the shared pathway to remove overhead powerlines and poles. The poles would be "undergrounded'', she said.

The underground cables had already been laid using existing ducts so there was minimal need for digging. The pathway was closed last week and is now back open to the public.

Any remedial work needed for the footpath and surrounding green space would complete the project, she said.
