Weekend showers likely

Otago's sunny summer days may take a break over the weekend as a southwesterly blows through, the MetService says.

While today was to remain fine on the coast, there was a risk of isolated showers inland, forecaster Cameron Coutts said.

Tomorrow, the temperatures were to remain in the mid-20s in many places but there would be more cloud and scattered showers as the cool southwesterly hit later in the day.

The change was expected to drop temperatures to 20degC but the rain was to clear later in the day, he said.

Monday was to be fine but it was too early to say with any certainty what the weather would be like for New Year, Mr Coutts said.

''The models are predicting a more settled period of weather after New Year.''
