Dunedin head chef Haylee King responded to a request from the Otago Daily Times asking readers to share what makes Valentine's Day special to them.
For Ms King (33) and her fiancee Nikita Crichton (27), Valentine's Day will always be significant after Ms King pulled out all the stops last year in making a marriage proposal.
Before asking the big question Ms King filled their hallway with helium balloons which had photos of their relationship.
She then cooked a gourmet dinner which the pair ate surrounded by candles.
She popped the question after asking her partner if she wanted a second glass of wine.
"I came back with the bottle I got down on one knee and asked if she would do me the honour of becoming my wife."
This year she sent her partner a huge bunch of flowers and chocolates and received a greenstone necklace and a red rose.
"Valentine’s Day will always be our special day."
They hope to get married next February.
